Buffalo Niagara’s Alternative to Home Demolition
There are many abandoned buildings in the Buffalo Niagara region of Western New York. In Buffalo alone there is an estimated 5,000-10,000 abandoned homes. These abandoned Buffalo homes are a problem, especially when they are neglected. Stories like Dirty Deeds that was published in BusinessWeek focus on a lot of the negatives.
But it isn’t as bad as the media would like to report. There is a strong movement here in WNY to fix the situation with the city of Buffalo’s Mayor’s AntiFlipping Task Force and grass roots organizations leading the way.
Last year, I discovered a very interesting organization that is making a difference in Buffalo. They provide an alternative to Buffalo Property Owners who are thinking of demolition of their property over at Buffalo ReUSE. It is called Deconstruction and the building can be reused and what cannot be reused is recycled. Much less is put into the landfill.
How great is that?!
While I was there I discovered their BLOG and a wonderful community project that they are looking for Sponsors for. Read all about it at Sponsor a Group that’s Adopted a Vacant House!
