Newspaper advertising and your home for sale
WNY Homeseller: Will you advertise my house in the Buffalo News and Niagara Gazette weekly?
NO!
Advertising your home for sale is different today. Times are changing and so are the are searching for a home in Western New York. The Buffalo News and the Niagara Gazette at one point in time were the most efficient way to get your home in front of a buyer. That was then, this is now. Today, the Internet is the most efficient manner of getting a home in front of potential Western New York buyers.

Newspaper advertisements are limiting:
- Reality is this, we don’t get phone calls on newspaper and magazine ads, we do get calls on our advertising efforts on the Internet, listing your home on the MLS and sign calls
- Newspapers are single use, once done with them the consumer throws them out
- Newspaper advertising is expensive and results in short ads that tend to lack the ability to grab the reader’s attention
- Serious buyers are not looking in the paper with today’s technology at their finger tips, there is a National statistic that shows about 80% of buyers are looking online when searching for a house.
Did newspaper ads work in the past, yes. Do they work in today’s market? No, they do not. Will I post an ad in the paper just to appease you? No, I will not. I can, however; give you great exposure on the Internet reaching the 86% of Western New York buyers searching for homes via the Internet. We advertise on a variety of sites, and we also write about our listings on the Internet.

April 12, 2008 at 7:14 pmIt’s popular these days for Real Estate professionals to profess that newspaper advertising is dead. They hope it dead so they don’t have to spend money on it to reach buyers and satisfy sellers. Of course most people use the internet to search for homes. Its easy, convenient. But internet listings are also invisible to potential buyers until they engage in the home shopping process. Good newspaper ads, those that follow basic principles, cause newspaper readers to move from cold prospects to warm prospects. Other media does that too. Radio and TV ads cause real estate shopping to become top of mind. Newspapers ads put your message in front of thousands of adults who read the newspaper for news and advertising information. Realtors are paid a lot of money to market your home. Should they invest some of that marketing in newspaper to reach people who are entering the market?
