If you are selling your home in today’s market you are aware that any edge you can achieve will be a help. Consider incorporating a few “green” selling points that you can offer prospective buyers:
- Insulate – Improve the quality of your current home insulation and add insulation to areas that need it.
- Shower – If your shower has an old shower head, replace it with a new one. The standard one is fine, and if you want a more powerful spray there are ones that deliver more force without using more water.
- Toilet – If your toilet is old you can replace it with a new one that, by law, uses less water. Another option is to fill a water bottle with sand or pebbles and put it in the tank. You’ll save about a half gallon of water per flush.
- Ceiling Fans – They can circulate air to increase cooling or heating without adjusting the thermostat. You can save as much 35% in the summer and 10% in the winter by using ceiling fans.
- Thermostat – Install a programmable thermostat. This is a step you can take that is not overly expensive and will save energy.
- Hot Water Tank – Following manufacturer’s instructions you can save energy by insulating your hot water tank.
- Tankless Hot Water System – Although expensive, this has long-range savings as well as the benefit of never running out of hot water.
- Display Maintenance - If you have a maintenance plan for your furnace and air-conditioning, then display it where prospective buyers can see it. That will show them that regular maintenance has been performed.
