RESIDENTS CAN RECYCLE OLD COMPUTERS, PERIPHERALS
Residents of North Tonawanda will have opportunities every Saturday in October to rid themselves of electronic junk, including old computers and monitors, thanks to an initiative of the Niagara County Refuse Disposal District and county legislators. Residents of North Tonawanda may bring electronic refuse to the North Tonawanda Department of Public Works garage:
758 Erie Avenue
every Saturday in October
from 8 a.m. until noon
The refuse will be turned over to representatives of the county’s Refuse District. “Bring in your old laptops, your computers, monitors, VCRs, whatever electronic devices you have,†said Legislator Peter Smolinski, R-North Tonawanda, who sits on the Niagara County Legislature’s Refuse Disposal Committee. “They will be recycled. TV sets, though, are not acceptable.†Smolinski said the electronic refuse collection was a significant benefit for North Tonawanda’s citizens, noting that with so many electronic devices quickly becoming obsolete, they were a major source of clutter, and could even, in some cases, be hazards, as they frequently contained metals and chemicals that could be toxic. “Niagara County legislators felt it was important to get rid of these wastes the proper way,†Smolinski said. “Recycling is the key.†The electronics disposal is free and open to the public.
