There is a great variety of housing options in the Greater Buffalo Region of Western New York.  The city of Buffalo is broken up into several districts:

Allentown

• Allentown is an eclectic mix of Buffalo’s Past, Present and Future with a collection of art galleries, antique shops and fine dining.  Host to the annual Allentown Art Festival which brings hundreds of thousands of people each summer.  Allentown is also home to the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
• Located within the NY State Empire Zone and HUD Renewal Community
• Living in Allentown gives you easy access to the Light Rail Rapid Transit System at the Allen Hospital Station
• Walking distance to the Buffalo Theatre District and Kleinhans Music Hall
  • This waterfront community is bordered by the Niagara River and the Scajaquada Creek.  Views of the Niagara River and Fort Erie Ontario.
  • The Riverwalk trail links the community to Downtown Buffalo and the Tonawandas.  While the Scajaquada Creek Trail links to the historic Olmsted Delaware Park
  • Home to Riverside Park has a mixture of marinas, restaurants and residential homes.
  • Influenced by the Erie Canal, there are several large industrial complexes that define the residentail areas.
  • Central to this area is Delaware Park offering gardens, trails, Delaware Lake, Buffalo Zool and all sorts of recreational facilities.  In addition Delaware Park is home to the second largest open-air Shakespeare festival in the United States.    Adjacent to the Park is Forest Lawn Cemetery.
  • Additional points of interest include Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Burchfield Penny Art Center, Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, Temple Beth Zion, and Millard Filmore Hospital
  • The Elmwood Village is a new and trendy area in the city to call home bordering Buffalo State College to the north and Historic Allentown to the south.

Black Rock/Riverside

Delaware/Elmwood strip

The Village has a mixture of Queen Anne, Second Empire, Italiante, Victorian Gotha and French Second Empire architectural styles.

• Downtown/Waterfront

  • There are more than 700 homes in the this area as part of the urban renewal in this area.
    Points of interest include the Erie Basin Marina, Naval & Servicmen’s Park, Erie Canal Harbor with the Buffalo Theatre District and Chippewas club scene nearby.
  • The Avant
  • The Buffalo Bisons and Buffalo Sabres call this area home, so it is a great area for sports fans to live!

  • In addition to the Central Terminal there is the Broadway Market, many historic churches and the Filmore Avenue Commercial Corridor.

• Fruit Belt

  • Undergoing a major transition, this historic neighborhood sits on the verge of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

• Hamlin Park

  • Historically Hamlin Park was the site of a racetrack for carriage races.
  • A planned community, before it was trendy to do so, today this area is conveniently located to Delaware Park, Metro Rail and Canisisius College.
  • Many historic homes can be found in this area of the City of Buffalo

• Kaisertown

  • Located in the southeast corner of East Buffalo, which is named after the founding population of German-Americans.

• Masten/Humboldt Park/Cold Springs

  • This area is being rebuilt block by block.
  • Juneteenth festival happens in this area each year, and is home to the Buffalo Museum of Science

• North Buffalo

  • The Hertel strip attracts many shoppers and visitors with an eclectic mix of shopping venues
  • Home to The Buffalo Zoo, Delaware Park and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House

• South Buffalo/First Ward

  • Frederick Olmsted designed South Park, Cazenovia Park and McKinley Parkway
  • Home to Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, Our Lady of Victory Basillica, and Tifft Nature Preserve

• University Heights/University District/Kensington/Kensington Heights

  • This is in the emerging UB South Campus area.
  • Home to Bailey Avenue shopping district, State University of New York at Buffalo’s South Campus, Erie County Medical Center and Sister’s Hospital.
