Great Appliance Swap Out

October 2, 2010 Update:    There are still funds available to take advantage of this great opportunity!   Visit the NYSERDA website for more information.

February 23, 2010 Update:   There is still funds available so if you are thinking of taking advantage you still may be able to receive the rebate.   Check with your appliance Vendor.

The “Great Appliance Swap Out” will take place between February 12th and February 21st!

New York State residents who buy a qualified energy efficient appliance during these dates will be eligible for a rebate from NYSERDA, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. If you’re recycling an old appliance, you’ll be eligible for an even larger rebate.

Here’s how it works: After you purchase a qualified appliance between the 12th and 21st, you’ll need to fill out a rebate application and submit it, with the required documentation, to NYSERDA by March 15, 2010. Then a check will be mailed back to you.

The following rebates are available:

  • Refrigerators: $75 ($105 with documented recycling)
  • Clothes washers: $75 ($100 with documented recycling)
  • Freezers: $50 ($75 with documented recycling)
  • Dishwashers: Rebates are only available for dishwashers when purchased as part of a three appliance package of CEE-rated appliances. This bundled purchase will qualify for a $500 rebate ($550 with documented recycling).

A total of $16.8 million will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The appliances can be purchased at any location.

To obtain the rebate application, see how much money is left in the program, or for more information, visit www.NYApplianceSwapOut.com or call 1-877-NY-SMART (1-877-697-6278).

If you are interested in reducing energy costs in your home, I urge to consider taking advantage of this incentive and taking part in the “Great Appliance Swap Out.”
