Once again, a movie with a Buffalo story line is being filmed somewhere else, and the actors will never come to town. “The Factory,” will have background scenes shot here to add to the film, but the actors will never come to Buffalo to shoot the movie.
“The Factory” is produced by Dark Castle Entertainment, a Warner Bros. subsidiary is the latest to film in Canada. The movie in which John Cusack stars in is set in the city of Buffalo and he plays an obsessed cop who is tracking a serial killer stalking the streets of Buffalo, N.Y. Following the disappearance of his teenage daughter, Cusack’s character forgets the legal restraints of his job and goes after the killer his own way.
It is sad to see that yet another movie has passed on filming here. The county and city officials need to look at the situation and make it more appealing to film here. “This is about keeping jobs and businesses here and not watching them move somewhere else,” Kaufman said. Although the producers were impressed with the Buffalo area, costs once again eliminated Buffalo as a film site.
Since its creation in 2002, the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission has lured a variety of film, television and advertising projects to Western New York. Estimates of the contribution of those projects to the area economy run as high as $20 million.
Other Films shot in the Western New York Region include:
- Best Friends – 1982 Staring Burt Reynolds & Goldie Hawn
- The Natural – 1984 Staring Robert Redford
- Canadian Bacon – 1995 Directed by Michael Moore
- Manna From Heaven – 2002 Staring Shirley Jones, Cloris Leachman & Louis Fletcher.
- The Maize 2- Dark Harvest – 2003 Directed by Bill Cowell and made in Tonawanda NY
